STORY OF MIRAGE KINGS COTTAGE SINCE 1926

Francis Richard Senanayaka. 1882-1926  A TRUE SON OF THE NATION Well-equipped BBQ facilities and fire place, children’s park, pony rides and outdoor Musical stage.
A Sri Lankan politician and a National hero who had been in the vanguard of the freedom struggle.A leading member of the Sri Lankan(then known as Ceylon) Independent movement. A peaceful political movement which aimed at achieving Independence and self-rule from the British empire.

Born in the village of Wal Botale in Mirigama at " Botale Wallawuwa" to an illustrious and powerful family, F. R Senanayaka was the second son of Don Spater Senanayake .

He passed out as a lawyer and later proceeded to the UK to complete Barrister - at -law at Lincoln Inn, London. He was a member of the legislative council.  The early demise of F. R. Senanayake paved the way for his younger brother D.S (RT HON D.S Senanayake )to become the first Prime Minister of the Independent SRI LANKA.

He was the father of eight children. As was the fashion during colonial times for the rich and the elite to saunter to salubrious climes of Nuwara Eliya then known as "LITTLE ENGLAND" during the hot and sweltering summer heat of the low country the present "MIRAGE KINGS COTTAGE" became the holiday abode of the Senanayake brood. The Senanayake family may have spent many a memorable holiday during the April and August seasons.

It is rumored that the drafting of the constitution for a free and Independent Sri Lanka by the two brothers F.R and D.S  and a number of National Heros was the result of the burning of the midnight oil within the precincts of “MIRAGE KINGS COTTAGE". As much as we would love to believe, BE IT AS IT MAY only the pristine white walls of the present "MIRAGE KINGS COTTAGE" will bear testimony to this well-loved tale.
